ARCHITECT

John Marsh Davis Jr.

Renowned architect John Marsh Davis and creator of such San Francisco Bay Area landmarks as Chateau Souverain, Joseph Phelps Winery, Rutherford Hill Winery and numerous awe-striking homes in Marin County, CA designed this home for the present owners in a process that began in 1981 through to the home's completion in 1985. Known for his "unique quality", Mr. Davis filled his projects with wit and unequalled originality. Every home he built was one of a kind and irreplaceable. His work broke rules which seemed to defy gravity with its extravagance. He loved to call it "Forgotten Modern". John March Davis was born October 12, 1931 in Oklahoma, and passed away February 22, 2009, leaving the world a more beautiful place.

BUILDER

George Lino

Geroge Lino worked with John Davis for more than ten years on various projects in the San Francisco/Marin area. He moved to the Monterey Peninsula in 1981 as general contractor to this project. It was four years in the making. He recalls using 3000 cubic yards of concrete, more kiln-dryed clear heart redwood than any other project, 18,000 square feet of copper imported from Germany, Japanese craftsmen hand-building all of the "tonsu" style built-in cabinetry, Davenport Mills of California using full-mortice doors with hand-made tools in the original style. Mr. Lino now resides in Carmel Valley, CA.

The landscape design was the recipient of the national award by the American Landscape Architect Society in 1989. Leffingwell Associates is in Sausalito, CA.
